HVAC Design & Review | ETS
What is HVAC?
HVAC refers to Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems, which under suitable control strategies maintains the temperature and air quality in buildings. Thermal comfort (temperature & humidity), fresh air (for dilution and removal of contaminants) & environmental performance in general are all critical aspects of occupant satisfaction, health and wellbeing, so HVAC is at the core of comfort, performance and safety.  HVAC systems are varied and can consist of many integrated systems, from centralised ventilation, Fan Coil Units, chillers & boilers, to a simple Air Source Heat Pump (AC) unit offering local heating & cooling. All have advantages depending on the building type, application and layout.

HVAC Review | A closer look for your HVAC controls.

HVAC systems operate under the dictates of central, localized and networked controls. Control strategies are critical in striking the right balance between comfort, efficiency & optimisation, and general performance, particularly with complex and integrated HVAC systems. Periodically reviewing HVAC control strategies and adapting to changes in building use, occupancy, layout and general conditions is critical in operating a stable, efficient and optimised HVAC system. Moreover, our HVAC engineers are able to review, analyse and adapt HVAC controls and strategies with energy optimisation core to the philosophy to avoid the energy waste.

HVAC | Design, Install, Maintain, Review | We guarantee the top standard for the whole journey.

Our consulting engineers are capable of customising the design and installation based on the size of your sites, and we have experience in commercial buildings, with single site single occupancy, g single site multi-occupancy,  and multiple site portfolios including medium to large retail stores. As an end-to-end energy management provider, we offer in-house HVAC performance specifications, outline designs and ongoing  energy and maintenance performance monitoring services upon completion and when installations become operational. . With our continuous support and monitoring, your sites can deliver the best energy performance.

Our team can complete installations quickly and efficiently with minimal disruption. We are approved installers for all major equipment brands and offer up to 5 years warranty on certain brands of equipment (subject to take up of an Air Conditioning Maintenance Contract) for your peace of mind. Energy bills are increasing, and managing the energy budget can be a headache. However, HVAC controls can run your equipment more efficiently without keeping tenants cold.

When winter creeps in, rely on our smart and efficient heat pumps that can save your energy costs. Instead of switching on the central heating as soon as it cools down and keeping it on until temperatures rise in March/April, consider using heat pumps or air conditioning heating systems to quickly heat your home. Heat pumps are highly efficient, supplying more than 3 kW of heat for every 1 kW of electricity it consumes, and they take up less space than central heating systems. Moreover, they can provide efficient cooling during warmer months, which can be helpful during heatwaves. When climate change turns into reality, and the weather gets more extreme, an efficient HVAC system can save your energy bills and maintain the high standard comfort level for your building.

HVAC System in Commercial buildings

Proper ventilation and climate control can significantly impact the comfort and productivity of employees, customers, and equipment. Mechanical ventilation systems are often the only viable solution to ensure your environment operates efficiently. Our team of experts specialises in designing and installing systems that meet your specific needs, considering factors like building type, usage, processes, environment, occupancy and regulations. Whether you need a new HVAC system or repairs/replacement of an existing one, we provide responsive assistance. Our designs prioritise energy efficiency, and our systems can be integrated with BMS to offer a cost-effective solution. Our extensive experience has allowed us to help clients create healthier and more comfortable work environments for years.

HVAC Design | Benefits

Your HVAC system does more than maintain building temperature.  It can play a direct influence on occupant comfort and productivity levels, energy bills, as well as health and safety. Based on WHO research, maintaining a temperature range of 18 – 24 ºC is crucial for the comfort and productivity of office workers.

HVAC systems ensure that thermal comfort (temperature & humidity), fresh air dilution and extraction of airborne contaminants is facilitated and suitable conditions are maintained. Businesses may face negative consequences if environmental comfort is not maintained and this can lead to a loss in productivity, higher levels of sickness and absence and a general feeling of dissatisfaction. In the post-Covid period, tenants are more aware of the cleanliness and comforts of their environment. From a cost-effective perspective, our heat pump system is capable of delivering both heating and cooling in one unit, achieving a remarkable efficiency of up to 65% when compared to standard electric heating.

Building connectivity | Ensure the best integration between BeMS,HVAC & Metering

In recent years we have seen a dramatic growth in building connectivity and controlling automation technology. Despite this, it is still not uncommon for parts of the HVAC to be managed separately from the Building Energy Management System (BeMS – Controls). Two of the most prevalent reasons for this issue are:

  • Change of building use or design – Fan Coil Units (FCUs) are a popular choice for regulating air flow in many office buildings. However, any modifications made to the building’s design can interfere with the system, leading to problems with heating and cooling. As a result, occupants may experience discomfort.
  • Tenants installing their own AC units – Tenants would install their own AC units while landlords may provide Heating and Ventilation. However, conflicting temperature set points may arise in the absence of a central BMS. To avoid this issue, ensure your AC unit is integrated with the BeMS.  Alternatively, reconfigure the AC unit so that it has the same control parameters as the centralised heating system.  If you don’t do this, not only will the systems use more energy, but comfort conditions will also be impacted.
