Homebase – Energy Demand Reduced by 28%

As part of the national LED lighting roll-out for Homebase, Energy & Technical Services was appointed to review the BeMS and control settings at their Milton Keynes store to further maximise the savings available. Milton Keynes was identified as a re-brand store, therefore required a tailored approach to ensure the lighting and control settings reflected the new store design.

The existing T5 lights on the sales floor were replaced to LED and a Harvard Technologies EyeNut integrated wireless lighting control solution was installed. The new controls allowed the store to set lighting levels to the exact specification of the new lighting design and exploit daylight harvesting to provide additional savings.

Challenge

Works had to be completed in a single phase at night to ensure trade was not impacted. Energy & Technical Services was instrumental in coordinating the works through close consultation with client representatives and subcontractors. Harvard Technologies wireless controls ensured installation was swift and more cost effective than alternative solutions available on the market.

Added Value / Achievements

As this was a re-brand store, the size of the shop floor was increased, which resulted in an increase in energy consumption. Despite this, compared to the previous years’ consumption, a total saving of 10% (23,422 kWh), was achieved within 4 months and the maximum demand was reduced by 28%. This equated to an annual saving of £8,783.25 and a ROI of 2.5 years.
